What is the Chess Scholarship League?

CSL, organized by Chessniti, in association with chess.com is a gateway to a world of opportunities for passionate chess enthusiasts. It’s a recognition of talent, a celebration of dedication, and a promise of transformation. 

Scholarship winner of CSL will receive benefits worth ₹1,50,000

CSL scholarship is designed to propel aspiring chess players towards the path of grandmaster excellence. It’s an initiative that embodies the spirit of chess, where strategy meets opportunity, and every move on the board takes you closer to achieving your dreams.

Who is it meant for?

CSL is tailor-made for young chess players who are a minimum of 6 years of age (born on or before 1st January 2017) and maximum of age 13 years (born on after 1st January 2010).
Rating: Maximum of 1500 FIDE rating.
Unrated Players: Unrated players are eligible to participate.

How to qualify for CSL?

Participating in the CSL, organized by Chessniti, is both simple and rewarding:

  • Online League Match: To qualify, all you need to do is participate in an exciting online league match organised by us on chess.com. 
  • Nominal Entry Fee: Entry into the scholarship is made affordable with an entry fee of just Rs.350 (early bird) and Rs. 700 thereafter for playing on the online league tournament. It’s a small investment that could unlock a world of opportunities.

Through CSL, we intend not only identify the right talent but also provide them with the right coaching, tools and resources required to attain greatness. It’s a pathway designed for young chess players to be future grandmasters.

Application Period: 16th Dec 2023 to 3rd January 2024

Qualification Tournament: January 6th, 4pm on chess.com. Tournament link will be shared upon registration.

Requirements for Playing in CSL:

Playing in CSL is easy, all you need is:

  • A laptop /desktop with access to internet 
  • An active account on chess.com (can be a free account too)
  • Access to Zoom

Tournament Format: Online on chess.com 

Time control: 10-minute Rapid game with no increment 

Rounds: Swiss League (Roughly 3 hours, depending on the number of participants)

Break: 30 minutes break after game 4 or 5

Reporting Time: 3.30pm on Saturday, 6th January 2024. First round starts at 4pm.

What is Prize pool?

Prize pool is the sum total of all the benefits including cash and in-king benefits that would be given away to winners of CSL. The total prize pool is set at Rs. 445,000.

Prize declaration:

Winners will be declared 24 to 48 hours after the tournament ends. This is to accommodate the time required for the Fair Play team to verify the games played. 

Anti-cheating measures:

We have taken maximum efforts to ensure a fair and transparent league. Our association with chess.com is to ensure there are no fraudulent means deployed by players to win any game(s).

In addition, players will be required to be live on a zoom call with screenshare to ensure transparency.

FAQs:

Yes, FIDE rated players are eligible to participate only if the rating is lower than 1500 as of 1st Jan 2024.

Yes. Players who do not possess a FIDE rating are eligible to participate in CSL.

The minimum age is 6 years old and maximum age is 13 years old, both age limited are calculated as on 1st Jan 2010.

No, the program is designed to benefit the participant as a skilled player by providing dedicated coaching, literature, software etc.

Though we don’t encourage it, but if there are any unavoidable situation due to which the winner secedes the scholarship, then they won’t be eligible to receive the completion certificate and the cash component.

Winners are selected as per their age category (Under 7, U9, U10, U11 & U13) and given prizes from chess.com as Diamond memberships.

Fair play is a set of measure taken by chess.com to stop/prevent/deter or detect players from cheating, or using fraudulent methods to win a game(s).

Cash prize will be given as net transfer/UPI to parents of the players. We will collect your bank details once winners are finalised.

Terms & Conditions:

1. Eligibility
- The scholarship program is open to chess enthusiasts who are a minimum of 6 years old at the time of application or maximum of 13 years.
- Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in chess beyond the beginner level.
- Applicant must be under 1500 in FIDE rating or unrated

2. Application Process
- Applicants are required to participate in an online league match organized by Chessniti Professional Academy.
- An entry fee of Rs. 300 (early bird) or Rs. 700 thereafter is applicable to participate in the league match.

3. Scholarship Prize
- The scholarship prize includes professional coaching for a duration of 6 months.
- Scholarship recipients will have access to exclusive chess literature.
- Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to interact with grandmaster & international master.
- The scholarship also covers the entry fees for select prestigious Over-the-Board (OTB) chess tournaments.

4. Selection Criteria
- Scholarship recipients will be selected based on their performance in the online league match.
- The decision of the selection committee is final and binding.

5. Scholarship Duration
- The scholarship duration is for 6 months, starting from the date of the award.

6. Code of Conduct
- Scholarship recipients are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and sportsmanlike manner during coaching sessions, interactions with grandmasters, and participation in tournaments.
- Any breach of the code of conduct may result in the revocation of the scholarship.

7. Privacy and Data Usage
- Applicants' personal information provided during the application process will be used solely for the purpose of the scholarship program and will be kept confidential.

8. Termination
- Chessniti Professional Academy reserves the right to terminate the scholarship program or disqualify any participant if there is evidence of fraudulent activity or violation of the terms and conditions.

9. Amendments
- Chessniti Professional Academy reserves the right to modify or amend the terms and conditions of the scholarship program at any time, with prior notice to participants.

10. Acceptance
- By participating in the Chess Excellence Scholarship program, applicants agree to abide by these terms and conditions.

11. Entry Fee
- Fees once paid will not be refunded.

12. Scholarship is eligible only for Indian citizens.

13. Photography notice: Winners' photograph may be used by Chessniti on its website or social media profiles for promotional purposes.

14. Fairplay: Chess.com's decision on Fairplay assessment will be final and binding. Any arbitration to be directly taken up with chess.com

15. Chess.com user name entered in form should be same as the one used to play the league. You cannot change this later after registration.

16.Results and winners will be declared in 2-3 working days after the tournament.
